Valkyries — those who witness the fight

Not every battle is about victory.
Some are about being seen.

  • Who they are: Female spirits serving Odin; the name means “chooser of the slain.”

  • Role in battle: Decide who dies and who lives, then guide the worthy fallen to Valhalla (and in some sources to Freyja’s hall, Fólkvangr).

  • In Valhalla:

  • Attend the Einherjar — not as victors, but as those who stood their ground.

  • Nature: Both fate-weavers and warrior figures—bringers of victory or doom; sometimes protectors or lovers in the sagas.

  • In Handimovers, Valkyries are not judges.
    They are witnesses.

They remind us that dignity is not granted after the struggle —
    but during it.
